PRIVACY AND COOKIES
Effective October 29, 2026. This is the personal website of Joseph Charnin, Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I run it as a blog. I do not sell anything here, run ads, or build profiles of visitors. This page says plainly what the site does with information.
The short version
- Google Analytics runs only if you press Accept on the cookie notice. If you press Reject, or your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, it does not run.
- The fonts are hosted on this site. Opening a page does not contact Google.
- I do not sell your personal information and I do not share it for advertising.
- If you write to me through the contact form, I use what you send only to reply.
What I collect, and why
1. The contact form
If you use the contact form, I receive your name, email address, subject, message, and a phone number if you choose to give one. It is emailed to me and I use it to answer you and keep ordinary business records. It is not added to a mailing list, and it is not stored in a database on this site. The form uses a bot check from Cloudflare (Turnstile) and a short-lived cookie that protects the form against forged submissions. Cloudflare loads when the contact page opens and receives technical information from your browser to run that check.
2. Analytics (only with your permission)
If you press Accept, the site loads Google Analytics 4. It sets two cookies (_ga and _ga_H1R98S6KQV) and sends Google information about your visit: the pages you view, an approximate location, your device and browser type, and where you came from. I use it only to see which articles are read. I have turned off the Google features that are used for advertising. Google processes that information under its own privacy policy. If you press Reject, nothing is loaded from Google and any Analytics cookies on your browser are removed.
3. Search Console
I use Google Search Console to see how my pages appear in Google Search. It reports search information Google already has. It does not add anything to your visit to this site.
4. Server logs
Like any website, the web server records the address of your connection, the time, the page requested and your browser type. This is used to keep the site secure and working, and is kept for a limited time.
Cookies
| Cookie | Purpose | When it is set |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Protects the contact form against forged submissions | Only when you open the contact page; ends when you close the browser |
_ga, _ga_H1R98S6KQV | Google Analytics, counts visits and pages | Only after you press Accept |
| Your choice (stored in your browser, not sent to me) | Remembers whether you accepted or rejected, so you are not asked again | When you press Accept or Reject |
You can change your choice at any time with , which is also in the footer of every page.
Your choices and rights
Whether or not a particular privacy law applies to a small personal site, I follow its principles. You can ask me to tell you what I hold about you, correct it, or delete it, and you can opt out of anything that is not essential. Write to info@josephcharnin.com. I may need to confirm you are who you say you are, and I will answer within 45 days. I will not treat you differently for making a request. Global Privacy Control signals are treated as a rejection of analytics.
I do not sell personal information, and I do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.
Children
This site is written for adults and is not directed to children under 13. I do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has sent me information, write to me and I will delete it.
Other sites
Articles link to other sites. Those sites have their own privacy practices, and they receive information only if you follow a link.
Changes
If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes and the cookie notice is shown again.
